• Mother Jones wrote about Jennie Lamere, who recently won the "best in show" award at the national TVnext Hack event by helping fans avoid spoilers on Twitter. She did it by writing "Twivo, a new program that allows Twitter users to censor their feeds from mentioning a certain TV show (and its characters) for a set time period." She was the only solo woman participating. "Hackathons (which have nothing to do with illegal hacking) bring together programmers, developers, and designers, who compete to code an innovative new program in a limited amount of time." Lamere has already been approached by a company to market her creation. "She came up with the idea for Twivo the night before the competition, and it took her 10 hours and 150 lines of code to complete."

• Fans and the general public are becoming less tolerant of corporate overreaches in copyright claims. A crackdown on Etsy vendors marketing Firefly-related hats caused sufficient outrage that one outlet selling the licensed hats decided to donate its profits to a Firefly charity. Yet as The Mary Sue pointed out, at least part of the anger was because now that "Fox has actually decided to license merchandise based on the ten year old television series" they're "taking shots at the smaller, unlicensed retailers that have been serving the market niche they’ve been ignoring."

May 22nd, 2013: Check out this awesome email I got from Ash, you guys: dear ryan a while back i was in the process of purchasing your one amazing human shirt when i noticed that the nutritional information said 80kg on it, because i'm guessing that's the average weight of an adult human thing? "that is pretty worrying!" said i, "for i am an adult human thing and i weigh exactly half that!" this provoked a trip to the doctors, and a blood test revealed that i've not only got an underactive thyroid gland but also diabetes :o now both these conditions are getting treated asap before i turn into one (1) spooky skeleton! dinosaur comics might have literally saved my life! or you know at least greatly improved the quality of it/my chances of not dying i guess that means i owe you one, ash This is awesome, and I'm glad I could help! Also I'm amazed that Dinosaur Comics merchandise could literally save your life. Good work, funny t-shirt! Well, the title more or less says it all, but let me say it again.

We want to do an omnibus edition of Digger. You guys asked (repeatedly!) and we think it’s a great idea!

The downside (and the reason we haven’t done it already) is that hardcover omnibuseseses require a big chunk of cash up front—we’re talking a big print job here, on the order of the Bone omnibus edition, and that does not run cheap. (Plus, of course, while people keep asking, we’re talking a spendy beast here and we want to make sure there’s enough interest to justify doing it!) Plus, if we get a LOT of interest, we can do all kinds of neat extras, like color inserts and cover embossing and extra stories and giant wombat balloons in the Macy’s Day Parade!*

So, in a couple of weeks, we’ll be Kickstartering! And we will have all kinds of neat goodies for sponsors (postcards! pins! pickaxes!) and also all kinds of mildly absurd goodies for sponsors (I believe at one level, I name a tree in the yard after you and put a little plaque with your name on it…) so watch this space for more information! You’ll be the first to know!

(Also, hey, Digger got nominated for the Mythopoeic Award, which is neat, too!)

*One of these things is a bald-faced lie.
